It was pretty weathered, it took some glue and sanding to prepare it for painting.
The hall where this is hung is by our kitchen, which I am trying to keep the color scheme of black, red and white. I choose a glaze paint so you would not see dirt and fingerprints.
I picked up some keys and flat metal clock pieces at Michaels, and spray painted them red.
I also purchased $1 white nobs with black designs of clocks, keys, french themed items. The fun part was drilling the holes with my dad.
Next my dad sawed off the backs of the knobs to make it flush with the board.
Then we patched the back of the board with putty to make it look nice and smooth on the back. Because lots of people look on the back :) I then painted over all the putty with the black paint to match the front.
The semi finished front...
Here is what it looked like hanging on the wall before I added the bows.
I wanted to hide the hangers so I made a bow for each side, I glued the ribbon together with a button in the middle. Not sure how to explain the steps, so just follow along with the pictures...
I also wrapped the wire in black ribbon and hung the keys down from the wire in the middle.
The finished coat rack...
